Waste Portable Battery Recycling & Disposal

The UK has a target of 45% of portable batteries placed on the market to be recycled, and PBR are here to help support you and ensure you are able to easily and efficiently recycle and contribute towards an increased percentage being disposed of in an environmentally friendly way.

Defining portable batteries

A portable battery is classified as one of any size or weight which meets all of the following:

  • The battery is sealed.
  • It weighs under 4kg.
  • It does not classify as an automotive or industrial battery.
  • It has not been designed exclusively for industrial or professional purposes.

In the event that you wish to classify a battery which meets the above criteria, additional evidence must be supplied.

Where are portable batteries found?

Portable batteries are found in a whole host of different appliances and products, typically those in everyday use including the likes of:

  • In TV remote controls (usually AA or AAA batteries)
  • In portable music players and speakers
  • As button cell batteries found in computers, watches and other similar products.
  • In domestic lawnmowers
  • In torches or bicycle lights.

Battery packs may classify as either portable or industrial batteries and, if you are unsure as to how your batteries are classified, please do not hesitate to get in touch to ask our opinion.
